Luminary clock

Last night when I went to work, the moon was about a third of the way up in a clear sky and seemed brighter for the cool, crispness of the air; it made me want to eat an apple.  When I came home, she was about a third of the way down and still so beautifully bright.  Sometimes I feel so sad that no one gets to see the moon like I do, being out at night like I am.  And anyway, it made me think of that Robert Frost poem, Acquainted With the Night.  Many of you know Frost is one of my favorite poets, and this is one of my favorite poems of his.  And, well, if you were sleeping last night, here's what you missed:

Acquainted With the Night

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain -- and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
A luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Beautiful poem. Robert Frost is one of my favorites, too. Thanks for reminding me of this one. I hadn't read it in a while.
